Andersen Building: A Concrete Pour Race Against Time

Every project comes with its own unique challenges. Our team in Rochester was faced with a race against the weather forecast while working to hitting a significant milestone on the Andersen Building concrete pour.

With 24 hours before snow, wind, and temperatures would become an issue, 1,620 cubic yards of concrete needed to be poured into a 4-foot-thick slab that would serve as the flooring for the medical facility. If this didn’t get done it would have resulted in a two-to-three-week delay in the continuation of the project. Knutson’s own VDC department was leveraged to provide precise models for the team on site to use during the pour, minimizing the room for error during this extremely technical process.

Through open communication, resourcefulness, and close collaboration between the teams, the job got done nearly an hour before temperature drops and wind speeds of up to 40 miles per hour began.

This project exemplifies Knutson’s value of integrity, which is at the heart of every successful construction project. The planning, precise execution, and unwavering commitment to excellence by all team members involved ensured that this concrete pour met the requirements necessary, and the team’s ability to uphold these high standards under challenging conditions is a reflection of why Mayo Clinic continues to trust Knutson Construction as one of their preferred contractors. As the progress of the Proton Therapy Treatment Center for Mayo Clinic continues, the solid foundation laid will now allow the treatment of over 900 patients a year and will support the advanced technologies that will improve patient outcomes for years to come.
