Careers in Construction Month
October is dedicated to celebrating careers in construction and highlighting the various career paths available, from skilled trades like carpentry to project management and engineering.
The construction industry will play a vital role in shaping our communities for years to come. However, there is a growing need for more skilled workers in the field. By promoting Careers in Construction Month (CICM), we hope to inspire more individuals to consider these career paths as an option for their future.
Advancing Careers and Community Involvement
At Knutson, we recognize the importance of sparking interest in the industry. That’s why we offer internship programs, college visits, career fairs for both college and high school students, and even opportunities for continued education for those wanting to further their careers.
Our Intern Connect Program has recently been expanded to give participants an even more well-rounded experience focused on growing their skills, networks, and confidence in the career they are pursuing throughout their time with Team Blue. Interns work on a variety of Knutson’s projects while being mentored throughout their program, giving them the chance to get hands-on experience on a real project. They also form relationships throughout their time on site and in office, while enjoying fun events and experiences.
Students at colleges and high schools can benefit from informative sessions about opportunities in the field. For example, Knutson visited St. Louis Park High School’s career fair and successfully recruited Joshuah Folwick, who decided to pursue a career in the field directly after high school. He was hired by Knutson and contributed to our renovations at the high school he attended!
We also support our employees in advancing in the industry by encouraging their continued education. Carolyn Wood, a Labor Foreman at Knutson, became the first woman to complete the Laborer’s Supervisory Development Program. She was mentored by a long-time Knutson employee, Tim Jacobson, and was able to complete the program in record time.
“You not only receive support and resources for your current and future career but you also have one-on-one meetings with key players within your organization that help build and gain valuable relationships and information. While also receiving valuable insight into the whole construction process from beginning to end. This really empowers you to do more, be more efficient, and be a bigger asset to your employer”, said Wood.
