Linn-Mar High School Stadium
The new stadium offers Linn-Mar’s students and its community a football/soccer field covered in state-of-the-art field turf, an 8-lane track with synthetic surfacing, a 5,000-seat home grandstand and a 1,000-seat visitor grandstand.
When the Linn-Mar Community School District decided to build a new stadium, they knew that many decisions and improvements would need to be made before they could even start designing the stadium. Building on campus required displacing several existing facilities, including the bus barn/maintenance facility, the school district’s main office and their practice facilities.
Shortly after the contract award, we were notified that the district’s new Bus/Maintenance Facility was 2 months behind schedule and would not be ready for occupation. This presented a challenge because the existing facility stood exactly where construction was to begin. With this knowledge, we met with our subcontractors and collaborated on a new project approach for the Stadium. We worked the site “backwards,” ending construction at the Bus/Maintenance Facility. Ironically, what was first thought to be problematic actually aided the project, as working in reverse required much less soil handling.
