MCHS - Austin Medical Center
Our attention to detail, high quality standards, and ability to meet our customers’ expectations has helped us become one of Mayo’s preferred construction partners. We have been working with Mayo for over 30 years and have completed various projects for Austin Medical Center.

Knutson Construction came to the forefront for the expansion of this Mayo-affiliated hospital and clinic, beginning with a successful value engineering process that reduced construction cost by over $1 million without compromising finished square footage. Then, we worked together with the Austin Medical Center staff to work around surgery schedules while excavating a 23-foot earth retention system and installing rammed aggregate piers adjacent to the facilities.

Keeping Operations Going
While working on the Austin Medical Center, Knutson was responsible for installing a penthouse air handling unit during a July weekend while maintaining operation of an existing rooftop unit. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, Knutson and our HVAC partner prepared to shut down the old air handler, waiting for all staff and patients to leave the building. We removed the existing air handler, extended existing duct work, connected it to the new unit, and brought it all on line by early Monday morning.
“None of our staff would have known about the change in equipment if we hadn’t told them,” explained Tim Schneider, plant operations manager for the Austin Medical Center.
