Prairie Island Indian Community Elder Assisted Living Center

This 38,000SF single-story elder center was developed in partnership with Ebenezer Management Services and Knutson Construction. One of the project goals was to incorporate culture and community within the spaces, reflecting the honor and respect for the elders of their community.

The building’s location and form highlight the surrounding 18 acres of tribal land while establishing a destination. Pathways and landscaping, including a courtyard garden, further connect the structure and residents with the land. Inside, the program encourages connections and community. A centrally located dining and lounge area incorporates cultural artwork and casual seating. Each of the 20 one-bedroom apartments feature full kitchens and private patios. Views to the landscape are provided throughout the project with thoughtfully placed sunrooms, windows and fully operable glass French doors.
