State Hygienic Laboratory
The State Hygienic Laboratory houses the state’s environmental and public health laboratory, where disease detection and environmental testing are conducted. This building replaced the old facility, which was built in 1917 as a tuberculosis sanitarium and no longer met the state’s needs for hygienic testing. Although the new building is approximately the same square footage as the old, it was designed to allow scientists to easily collaborate on both routine work and environmental and public health emergencies.
