Two Twelve Medical Center Wins MCA Award of Excellence
Knutson Construction is proud to announce the Two Twelve Medical Center Vertical Expansion project was named the winning project in the Renovation, Expansion, or Tenant Improvement Project category at the Minnesota Construction Association Awards of Excellence Gala on January 24, 2024.
The project consisted of both demolition of 15,000 SF of four existing health care suites, one of which needed to be relocated to the third floor; as well as a vertical expansion of 35,000 SF. The vertical expansion portion included one elevator addition to serve all floors (lower level through fifth), two elevator modernizations to allow existing elevators to serve the fifth floor, and one elevator added to an existing shaft. The project also included a kitchen, which was installed to serve patients, and six rooftop unit (RTU) switchovers.
While procurement, phasing, and completing construction at a 24/7 facility were all challenges the project team had to overcome, a 6 month RTU delay that forced the entire project’s projected phasing to shift significantly was perhaps the most intensive challenge Knutson faced during their time at Two Twelve. Despite this potential setback, the project was only delayed by one month due to the team’s consistent communication, coordination, and commitment – a substantial feat.
Congratulations to the project’s design teams at BWBR and Edward Farr Architects, Inc., our subcontracting partners, and the Two Twelve team on this well-earned win! We are so proud of the work accomplished on this project and are honored to share this recognition with such wonderful partners.
