Three Knutson Projects Selected as 2022 Finance & Commerce Top Projects
Minneapolis, MN – 05/02/23
Knutson Construction is proud to announce that their University of Minnesota Campbell Hall / Institute of Child Development, Hennepin County Medical Examiner Facility, and the North Loop Garage projects have been selected as three of the Top Projects of 2022 by Finance & Commerce.
“Finance & Commerce Top Projects represent the best of the region’s built environment, honoring the best building and construction projects in Minnesota,” Bill Gaier, Publisher of Finance & Commerce, wrote in the announcement. “Every year, the projects seem to increase the creativity, level of difficulty, and innovative construction technique. We are proud to honor each of these winners.”
The achievement is an honor indeed. Each year, Finance & Commerce curates a list of fifty winning projects from an expansive submission list. Projects are judged for their degree of difficulty, creativity in design, innovative construction techniques, cooperation among contractors and management, and sustainability efforts.
The ICD / Campbell Hall project was a unique project due to the historic nature of the existing building and its area on the UMN campus, among other things. The project scope included an entire reconstruction of the existing 27,200 SF building, demolition of a significantly dated 1960s addition, and the construction of a new 42,400 SF section. Knutson and other project teams were committed to create a cutting-edge research space that would beautifully reflect the incredible work accomplished within ICD’s walls, as well as the department’s historic significance and future goals.
The North Loop Garage project, a joint venture between Knutson Construction and Adolfson & Peterson Construction, included the build-out of a 350,000 SF, two-level bus maintenance and storage facility with 24 maintenance bays and capacity for 216 Metro Transit buses. The 11-acre site is on the edge of the North Loop neighborhood, just west of downtown Minneapolis.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner facility project, located in Minnetonka, included two brand new connected wings covering 64,000 SF for use by the comprehensive Medical Examiner team, including autopsy bays, body freezers, coolers, office space, conference rooms, a mechanical penthouse, loading docks, and a new access road. The project also included demolition of four existing structures on site, along with construction of several new retaining walls.
All selected projects will be featured in a magazine spread in Finance & Commerce’s publication slated to be released in late July. Winning projects and their teams will also be celebrated at a Thursday, July 20, networking reception celebration at Quincy Hall in Northeast Minneapolis.
We would like to extend warm congratulations to all winners, as well as a sincere thank you to all our project partners and teams for their hard work on these projects. Incredible teamwork and dedication are what makes projects award-winning, and we share this victory with you!
